Primetals Technologies and LanzaTech renew green steel agreement

Carbon capture and recycling company LanzaTech has extended its collaboration agreement with Primetals Technologies to “accelerate the adoption of integrated environmental solutions for the global steel industry.”
The new commitment aims to combine Primetals Technologies’ expertise in providing a variety of green steel solutions with LanzaTech’s new Carbon Capture and Utilization (CCU) technology that turns waste into wealth. Under a previous agreement, the two companies worked together to integrate and optimize processes for converting steel emissions into salable chemicals. Through this new 10-year agreement, Primetals Technologies and LanzaTech hope that more projects in the global steel industry will be able to use LanzaTech’s carbon recovery technology.
“There is no single path to reducing emissions in the steel industry, but a number of solutions can play an important role in achieving national, regional and even corporate zero emission goals,” said Dr. Jennifer Holmgren, CEO of LanzaTech. industry leaders such as Primetals Technologies to bring our technology to more industrial players around the world.”
“The steel industry’s goal of zero emissions by 2050 depends on the revolutionary development of CCU technology,” said Dr. Alexander Fleishanderl, senior vice president and head of green steel at Primetals Technologies. “The LanzaTech method can take advantage of different airflows even if the steel mill is moving to a new production method without requiring any significant changes in equipment or technology. Should the steel mill decide to move from today’s carbon-intensive production routes to a newer process, LanzaTech Technology will will continue to be integrated with new airflows. This flexibility is very exciting for the future of the industry.”
